Our Dalswinton Discovery ride is a gently paced outing of about 18 miles largely on quiet back roads, although the road into Dalswinton itself can be a little bit busier and faster than we really like. As with all our Curiosity Rides the emphasis is on enjoying the ride and meeting people, rather than speed and endurance – we go ‘at the speed of chat’ and we welcome all types of cycles including e-bikes and trikes. Dalswinton Estate is a nice spot for a visit, and this ride also enables us to explore the quieter roads north of Dumfries that lie beyond the Caledonian Cycleway. We start by heading out along the Caledonian, before taking Quarry Road north towards Ae Forest. We then cut across towards Duncow, before joining the Auldgirth Road as far as the Dalswinton Estate. One of our members, Jim made this video for us on last year’s ride. Route Map View Route Details Create routes or search for a route at MapMyRide.
In RBC Film Theatre’s annual Book Week Scotland event, poet JoAnne McKay will draw on her current reading to explore how museums, and archaeology, are going to be tools for dealing with the climate crisis, and how past strategies and technologies may be needed to assist with our future.
