About this event
WHAT?
Join us on your glowing and lit up bikes for a family friendly bike ride. We'll be riding from Dock Head to Kingholm Quay along the cycle path then back via the partially closed quiet Kingholm Road.
Come and celebrate the new lighting along the cycle path and show your support for the #MyRideOurRight campaign calling for safer routes for women to cycle. When it's safer for women, it's safer for everyone.
Bring your lights and come glow with us! #GlowRides #CyclingUK
WHY?
Good lighting on cycle routes is a key part of making cycling safer year round - particularly for women, but also for lots of other people who might find a path like this worrying after dark. In the last couple of years Dumfries and Galloway Council have added lights to a number of key routes - the Kingholm Quay path, the Maidenbower path and the curly wurly bridge in Lincluden - something we welcome! The lights have also been fixed on the Greensands where the work is going on, which makes that route feel a lot safer. Our Glow Ride on Thursday will highlight the importance of lighting where appropriate as a way of making cycling feel socially safe for everyone, as well as safe from traffic.
