E-Bikes Changing Lives In Dumfries

The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust runs weekly, beginner e-bike rides from Dumfries railway station. For one group the benefits went way beyond just cycling.
The WWCT comms team recently visited Dumfries to report on one of their local projects that has been having positive outcomes for one group of locals.
The Walk Wheel Cycle Trust (formerly Sustrans) are known for their National Cycle Network, part of which passes through Dumfries. This makes Dumfries a stopping off point for touring cyclists and even those attempting the Land’s End to John o’ Groats mega ride.
But they also provide cycle training in schools and for any adults looking to begin or return to more day to day cycling for getting out and about to work, shops and visiting.
From their base at the railway station they offer blocks of weekly group rides where bikes and helmets are provided. The focus of the group is trying out e-bikes so people of any fitness level can take part, but push bikes can also be provided or you can use your own bike.
As the video shows the benefits aren’t what you’d think at first and for this particular group they have continued beyond the regular Thursday afternoon meetup.
